Thrips are adept at jumping or flying and often hide in concealed areas such as flower buds or leaf axils. In a large and densely planted area like this, comprehensive spraying is necessary, requiring a relatively large quantity.
Here are some suggestions:
- Place reflective cloth or zinc sheets on the soil surface or above it to deter thrips from laying eggs and prevent pupae from falling into the soil.
- The use of blue sticky traps is effective. It’s recommended to place them at least 1 foot above the plants, with one trap placed in approximately every 10 feet by 10 feet area. For this area, you should place 4-6 traps. Change them monthly.
- Prune plants with dense foliage to facilitate the application of organic pesticides later on.
- Consider purchasing Mr Ganick Ultimite Concentrate for regular spraying. Mix 10ml with 5L of water and spray the entire garden. Initially, spray twice a week (with a 3-4 day interval) for four consecutive weeks, then reduce to once a week.
- Spray closer to dusk (e.g., after 5 pm) as thrips are more active during the evening hours.
