Young durian on tree

Can a durian tree with canker be treated during fruit-bearing stage?

It is not recommended to do treatment plan while the fruits are still on the tree. During the fruit-bearing stage, durian fruits are absorbing significant nutrients from the leaves and stem. The tree’s nutrient reserves are relatively low at this time, and applying intensive disease treatments may burden the tree and affect fruit quality and yield. It is better to wait until all fruits are harvested or have naturally fallen. At that point, apply compost to enrich the soil with organic matter and replenish the tree’s nutrients. Once the tree regains vitality, treatment for blackhead disease can begin.

Treatment recommendations for the current stage:
1. Gentle measures can be taken to temporarily control the spread of canker disease.

  • Use Mr Ganick BST (10gm/10L water) mixed with an appropriate adhesive (such as Mr Ganick Organic Silwet) and spray the solution on infected wounds or lesions. Mr Ganick BST helps suppress pathogen spread and slows disease progression.
  • Spraying frequency: Once every 7-10 days for 2-3 applications, until the fruits are harvested.

Once the fruits are fully harvested, comprehensive treatment after fruit harvesting:

  1. Apply compost immediately to improve soil quality and restore nutrients.
  2. Clean up infected leaves and branches to reduce sources of pathogens.
  3. Treat canker disease by applying a mixture of Mr Ganick BST and Mr Ganick Lepid 007 Concentrate to affected areas, ensuring the disease does not recur.
