Curly and dry leaves falling

Why are new leaves curling and many leaves falling?

Leaf curling and excessive leaf drop can be caused by several factors, primarily related to fertilizer concentration, spraying frequency, or pest infestations. Possible causes:

  1. Overly concentrated fertilizer or frequent spraying: If fertilizer or pesticide solutions are too strong, or if they are applied too frequently, leaves may absorb excessive nutrients or chemicals, leading to inward or outward curling. Wavy or distorted leaves are often a stress response to over-fertilization or overuse of sprays.
  2. Psyllid infestation: Psyllids are small insects that feed on plant sap, causing leaf curling and deformation. Check the underside of young leaves for tiny insects or residue, which could indicate an infestation.

Treatment method:

  1. Adjust fertilizer & spray concentration – If no pests are found, dilute fertilizer or pesticide to 60-80% of the original strength to reduce plant stress.
  2. Reduce spraying frequency – If currently spraying twice a week, reduce to once a week and monitor plant response.
  3. Treat psyllids if present – Use Mr Ganick Scale Ex Lite, spraying once or twice every two weeks, depending on pest severity.

By making these adjustments, you can help restore healthy leaf growth and reduce leaf drop.
