Cucumber planting tips at home

Why is my cucumber only slightly crunchy despite using worm compost?

The softer texture of your cucumbers is likely due to a lack of potassium and calcium, two essential nutrients that contribute to firmness and crispness. While worm compost is rich in nitrogen, it typically contains lower levels of potassium and calcium. Nitrogen promotes leaf and plant growth, but without sufficient potassium and calcium, cucumbers may develop a softer texture instead of a crisp bite.

Treatment method:

  1. It’s recommended to use compost-based fertilizer such as plant-based compost fertilizer (Baba Compost-based Fertilizer) intermittently, as it has a more balanced nitrogen-to-potassium ratio, helping enhance fruit development and improve crispness.
  2. Boost calcium with crushed eggshells. Crush eggshells and sun-dry them for two days before sprinkling them on the soil. Eggshells are rich in calcium, which helps strengthen fruit structure, making cucumbers crunchier and firmer.

By incorporating these nutrients, you can improve both the texture and overall quality of your cucumbers.
